Best insoles for Shin Splints

Shin splints is a general name for shin pain of which there are many causes. However, the most common is Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS).

shin pain insoles

This occurs when the muscles of the lower leg repeatedly tug on the tibia (shin bone). The tibia is encased in a thin layer called the periosteum, and it’s this layer that becomes irritated and inflamed. The pain results from the constant traction forces applied by the surrounding soft tissues, including muscles and tendons.

Treatment involves:

  • Reducing pain and inflammation
  • Restoring lower leg muscles to full strength and flexibility
  • A gradual return to running.

This is where Ultimate Performance Advanced Insoles help!

How do insoles help with shin pain?

overpronation and shin splints insoles

The best insoles to help with shin splints depend on your foot type. One major cause of shin pain is overpronation, where your foot rolls in or flattens as you walk. As your foot rolls inwards, the lower leg also rotates inwards. As a result, traction forces on the inside of your lower leg increase.

Overpronation

If you overpronate then you may benefit from arch support insoles. These control the position of your heel, hence reducing overpronation. Additionally the shock dispersing properties of our Advanced Insoles reduce the repetitive strain on the lower leg.

Recommended: Advanced Support+ Insoles

Neutral foot types

If you are lucky enough to have a neutral foot type then you still benefit from some arch support, especially if you are involved in running or jumping activities. As well as medial arch supprt the 3mm of shock damping material in our Advanced Insoles protects from repetitive strain.

Recommended: Advanced Neutral Insole

Underpronators/Supinators

If you underpronate then it is likely you have a more rigid, high arch foot. Therefore you need less medial arch support and more shock dispersing properties from your insoles. Shock absorbing insoles for shin splints is the priority if you underponate.

Recommended: Advanced Cushion Insole

Active Range

Our Active models give a slightly lesser degree of support than the equivilent Advanced versions insoles. As a result, they are perfect for everyday footwear. This ensures 24/7 protection whatever you wear on your feet.
